Coached by his mother Gloria, Jimmy Connors reached great success with his Wilson T2000. No other player showed the same intensity as Jimmy, who once was quoted saying "I hate loosing more than I love winning". Connors is the only player who has won the US Open on all 3 surfaces. The US Open was in the past played on grass, clay, and now on hard court. Although he never won the French, Jimmy won a total of 8 Grand Slam singles titles, and 2 Grand Slam doubles titles. Early on in his career, Jimmy competed against the Lavers and the Newcombs, and later he battled against Ashe, Borg, and McEnroe. Borg beat Jimmy at Wimbledon, but Connors beat Borg at the US Open, hence Borg never reached all the way in New York. Still competing hard at age 39, Connors reached the semi finals at the US Open, loosing to Jim Courier. Watching Jimmy Connors play was always very exciting.
