John McEnroe

Most people would agree that John McEnroe probably had the best hands ever in tennis. He used his tennis racket as a wand, doing magical things on the court (sometimes not so magical things too...). Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 1959, his break out year was 1977 when he as a qualifier reached the semi finals at Wimbledon where he lost to Jimmy Connors. Jimmy Connors went on to loose to Bjorn Borg in the finals. John McEnroe grew up on Long Island, where he rather played tennis than doing off court fitness and strength training. By also playing doubles, he found a way to spend more time on court and even less time doing fitness with his buddies. By also playing mixed doubles, he found yet another way to get out of the fitness training. But all this doubles practice paid off. Johns' longtime doubles partner Peter Flemming once said "The best doubles team in the world is John McEnroe and anyone". Today John McEnroe is an established tennis commentator on CBS and some other networks. He lives on the upper west side on Manhattan, NYC.
